Having fun working with Yupo paper and Chinese ink.  Yupo paper is a polypropylene paper which doesn't absorb water.....hence the puddles of wash sit on the paper and dry.  I love this paper even though it is quite pricey!

I went treasure shopping yesterday and found this small earthenware decanter which I believe may be raku.  It is lovely.  It isn't crooked it is the way that the paper folded when I photographed it.  Anyway the shape and decoration make this a very special piece.

I have a treasure trove of props for my still life compositions.  I decided to just paint them as they are stacked next to one another on the top shelf....such fun!!!  This will be a series....more to come!!

Very happy that I went back into this painting and tried to do a better job....I have been looking at the work of Ray Roberts and learning from the way that he applies paint.  I have so much to learn.....also working on the shadow colors....

These were peonies that were rejected in the choosing of the ommission paintings.  I painted 4 extra and so I had plenty for the customer to choose from.  I decided to go back into the unfinished paintings and beef them up a bit.  THEY SOLD  I am very happy with the way that they turned out.  What do you think?  I think I need to let things rest for a while before deciding they are done.  By the end of the commission marathon I was tired and so they were not as good as the earlier ones.  A week away and fresh eyes really helped.

This little painting is 3"x 4" on a canvas panel.  It was a small painting that I did some time ago that just never seemed to work.  Yesterday, I decided to spruce it up and submit for Day 8 of the 30 day challenge.

While I was at the garden center I bought two large philodendrons. When I got home I discovered a pretty little orchid that had broken off of its base sometime during shipping. In this setup I chose to place partially on a black cloth with flowers. I think I like the contrast but I'm still thinking about it. 6x8 inches oil canvas panel

I have been desiring to paint the figure again. This is a photograph that my husband took of me on my deck. I liked the foreshortening, perspective, and color of this image. 24x20 inches oil stretched canvas

i like the combination of the red plate and cup with the oranges. It reminded me of a song from the 70's. I wanted to stay loose in this painting. I'm just not sure if I was too loose.

These lemons I placed in front of my studio window and the light cascaded over them. The day was very rainy and grey so the light was rather flat. I did place another light souce in front of them which compounded a lighting problem but I could see them! While I was shopping yesterday I found this huge, beautiful red pepper. When I brought it home to put into a salad I had to paint it first. The color is the most vibrant red and red orange. I tried something a little different with this painting. I worked very diligently to keep the colors pure and paint slow enough to be able to evaluate each color as I laid them down. I like the results. The painting has a clarity that I am not sure I have obtained to this point. I merged several tecniques that other bloggers have shared. I scumbled in the layout drawing with a neutral and then laid the colors into the value areas. 6X6 inches] canvas panel oil March2, 2010

I have to admit that I had never tasted a Clementine until I bought a box of them the other day at the grocery store. They are very sweet and delicious. I had a great deal of fun painting this little 6 inch by 6 inch oil painting. January 31, 2010

I wanted to keep this painting in a more neutral color scheme. I worked on this painting for longer than I should have I think. I just couldn't get the values the way that I wanted them. Out of frustration I finally went in with touches of color and that seemed to brighten the painting. I don't hate it and decided to post it. This painting is 6 X 8 inches on Raymar canvas panel.

I used an underpainting in this composition to create warmth. A large part of a painting is the compostion or design. I am concentrating much effort in setting up the still life. It is difficult to find the correct balance of objects and color. I chose to soften edges and leave areas of the painting abstract. My intention is to lead the eye throughout the painting and create a visual dialogue of movement. This oil painting is 16 by 20 inches on stretched canvas. In searching for a subject I turned to the 3 bags of apples that I had stored in my refrigerator. I knew that I wanted to paint an image with many multiples. The silver tray has been in my husband's family for many years and provided a good surface for the apples. I liked the reflection. The umbrella I have had for several years. I at one point envisioned suspeding them opened from my ceiling. I decided that wasn't a very logical solution in my stufio which is small. SOLD
