New work

For me it's all about simplification.... Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Francis of Assisi

New work

All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bouquet of Roses

New work....trying to fuse my own style with what I have learned....

Reworked paintings

Firecracker!

I had fun with this painting today....still trying out the water soluble oil paints...not sure how I feel about them....clean up is easy though!

Bosc Pears and Silver

I am switching to water based oil and gosh I really like them....so much easier.

Girl Things

I have been working on applying the material I learned in the Dennis Perrin class and am really enjoying the results.  This painting can be found here .....

Figurine, Roses and Green Hobnail Vase

finished this painting today. I think I could have pushed the values and color more but, am happy with it. I think I need to take the Perrin flower course!

Homework....4 different lighting conditions

This weeks homework assignment was to paint an object, something simple, in 4 different lighting conditions, with 3 values plus accents of black and white. I forced the value range down because I wanted the highlights to show up really well........ BACK, TOP, FRONT, SIDE....in descending order......I did these in a kind of a rush and so the composition could have been better....sorry....I wanted to complete the assignment......

Papaya and Posies

Yes, one more revision and now I am truly happy..........................................!

Papaya and Posies

Look familiar?  Yeah I couldn't stand the other painting as I was trying something that just didn't quite work out.  I am more comfortable with the changes that I have made.....

Pink Cabbage and Posies

This is a work in progress....I am evaluating whether I will work anymore on it........Well, I needed to gray the left side a bit and I am now pleased with the painting.  There was just too much blue to suit me.

Old English Rose

I have worked and worked on this piece and now feel that it is complete....the problem was the Thalo Blue that I used in the background...I just couldn't get rid of it and it was distracting.  I had work really hard to get rid of it......I am satisfied now.  But, I will strive for a little warmer background in the future.

Asparagus

Not too pleased with this painting which was a total wipe-out and may be again.....

Citrus

It takes almost as much time to set up a still life as it does to paint one....whew....it has to speak to me to be right.  I had a lot of fun with this painting.  My objective was to work with intense color...The vase contains vinegar water so you can imagine that my studio smells like a salad.....In this painting I used a palette of Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Quinacradone Magenta, Titanium White, Cad Red Light, Coral, Sap Green, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre....wellllll I just wanted a rich full palette....

Winter Rose

This is a 6"x 8" oil painting on board.....it will be available in my Etsy shop.

Nomad

For some reason this painting reminds me of the Aztec ruins from Mexico.....I think that it is the architectural antique that belongs to my husband with the huge sun symbol.  I haven't painted cloth that much and so I had heart failure when I first began....and then after many tries I wore myself out and relaxed and let it happen.  It is just a matter of following the light and shadow.......and keeping the wonderful feeling of the soft supple cloth.  I used a limited palette of Azo Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Titanium White and a tad bit of Ivory Black.  I did paint a 12"x 12" value study to break the painting down into a simple hierarchy of value shapes.

Oh yumm....apricots

This was a 60 minute study...it is small and done in oil on Gessobord.  I enjoyed working quickly and want to try another one today with what I learned.

Her Life by the Sea

This is an 11"x 14" painting on stretched canvas.  It was challenging working with so many small parts.  I hope that I didn't get it too chalky.  I tried to use purest color I could knowing that I was working with medium to light values.  The tiny and I do mean tiny shells were a real challenge.  Fun painting though......Oh, and the abalone shell.....man was that tough.....
