Procreate painting......"Purple Plums and 2 Bananas"

I am exploring my Procreate App ad enjoying the freedom that I have.....it is quick and colorful and just loads of fun.  Still continuing my Abstract painting class and I know that you all have seen the changes that I am going through.  I look forward to seeing how this will impact my oil painting.  Thank you so much for being a faithful follower......

Cocktail and Pink Himalayan Salt

I have included the initial layout of the drawing with the values being placed.  In the second listing I am beginning to lay in where the darkest darks will be and where the middle values will be and then where the lightest values are put in.  It was critically important that I work with only a few colors.  I chose cadmium red light, cadmium yellow medium, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, emerald green, and titanium white.  This gave the the most beautiful gray violets and pinks.  The reds were vibrant and intense.  It was tricky making the ice.  The umbrella had to be drawn very carefully because it led to the focal point.  The second focal  was the pink salt shaker.  All in all I am very pleased with the painting.  It has a nice value structure which you can see in the last entry.

Ruby Red

Almost lost the value structure.....whew....I really had to work with this one...I like it though....

Yellow Rose, Guacamole, Shine On

Busy day today..... The Greater The Storm The Brighter Your Rainbow......                                                                                                       unknown

Reworked paintings

Daily drawing....cherries

Beginning again to daily sketch....feels good to be back at it.....

Her Life by the Sea

This is an 11"x 14" painting on stretched canvas.  It was challenging working with so many small parts.  I hope that I didn't get it too chalky.  I tried to use purest color I could knowing that I was working with medium to light values.  The tiny and I do mean tiny shells were a real challenge.  Fun painting though......Oh, and the abalone shell.....man was that tough.....

Ruby Red Vase and Stems

My favorite vase is a Ruby Red from the 1940's.  There was an entire set of dishes made with this lovely color.  As a child I would hold the plate to the sun and catch the light coming through, it was glorious.  I backlit this so that I could capture the radiance of the color.  This painting is scraped down quite a bit and I loved the results so I left them!

My Treasures II

Once again I will need to photograph in the daylight because the colors aren't as intense as they are in true to life.  I really cut loose with this painting.  I focused once again on my 'treasures'....my stash of still life objects to paint.  I kind of enjoy this because I don't have to compose a story....I like things to be quite natural.  With this it is about the objects...their relationships to one another...color....interaction.....It is about letting my feelings come through the painting.  I am either going in the wrong direction or in the right direction....I think I will just need to weather this one through.

Shadow Rose II

I painted this image the other day and felt that I could do better....6"x 6" Gessobord...this is an image painted from the photograph of Els Manning ...... I am happy with this painting....the 1st painting of 'Shadow Rose' was one that I went back into and it never really works to do that.  I think that my color choices are much better in this version....I also slowed way down with purpose.

Still Life 1

I have been enjoying the new medium, for me, of gouache.  This is a 5"x7" painting on mixed media paper.  What is it about gouache that I like so much?  In some ways it is very similar to oil paints in that it can be very dense and opaque.  One of its features that I like so much is that it dries almost immediately and that makes it fun.  The colors are bright and clean.  I went shopping.  Can you tell?  I found vases, bowls, scarves, fabric flowers and a multitude of other wonderful props for my still life painting.  My big find was a huge blue striped table cloth for only $3.00 to use as a backdrop.  It is very soft blues and quite subtle.  Love it!!
16"X20" Oil Stretched Canvas $600.00   This is a much larger painting than I have been working on.  I chose the subject matter because of the colors and the tissue paper surrounding the ornaments.  I found that I needed to gray down the values in the paper to get it to read as white.  I think that I may have been able to go a bit darker.  I have never worked to any extent with cloth or folded paper and this presented many challenges.  I painted each section of the painting and finished a section before moving on the next section.  Was this the wisest way to work?  Perhaps and then again perhaps not....I need to think more about it.  Fun painting to do!

Apple...Day20

6"X 6" Oil Stretched Canvas I am catching up now...I chose this relatively simple still life today.  I enjoyed painting it so much.  There has been much attention to color as value that I have been studying and it is paying off.  I am very pleased with this apple.  This painting is my submission to Day 20 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  This painting is found here .
8"X 6" Oil Raymar Canvas Panel $110.00 The little gold cup and saucer are a new acquisition from Ebay.  Just fell in love with the color.  In this painting I tried very hard to use a minimum number of strokes.  I wanted to keep it fresh, abstract and clear. Southern Peaches

8"X 8" Oil Canvas Panel                                                                            $125.00   These peaches are spilling out of my peach colored depression glass cracker jar.  I happen to love southern peaches...they are so sweet!

Peony

8"X 8" Oil on Board $135.00   The glass is part of a set of 4 that I bought that came from the 1950's...love them!  The cups a melmac...who remembers that?  The Peony is not real but I fell in love with it at Pier One Import.  I felt on my game today and this fell together rather effortlessly.  That's the best way.  If you sign up for my Newsletter, that only comes out once a month, you can be entered to win a 6"X 6" painting at the end of the month.  I would appreciate it if you would LIKE my Facebook page.  Both signups are on the right hand column!

Roses in Vaseline Vase

8"X 8" Oil Canvas Panel $120.00 I have always liked this little 8"X8" oil painting done on a canvas panel.  I love to paint roses.  What I liked in particular about this painting was the simplicity of the forms.  The Vaseline Vase is my very most favorite vase.  Vaseline glass glows when placed under a black light and has the most incredible yellow green color when placed directly in the sunlight.  I bought this vase on Etsy at one of my favorite shops (Annykate).  This painting can be purchased here .

Fresh Papaya SOLD

8" X 8" Oil   I recently bought new brushes and I think I like them better than what I have been using.  I am a little surprised.  For over 20 years I have used synthetic bristle brushes, but this time I bought natural hog hair bristle brushes.  They lay now less paint and work the paint into the canvas more.  I like it.

Little Glass Dog

Now this was difficult to do. Painting a glass figurine poses all kinds of problems. I think that the most difficult is finding a background of the right value that shows off the glass. It was great practice. I have hung in on this painting and now I am pleased with the results. It was very difficult and I learned sooo much. Don't give up until it suits you is the first thing I learned!
