New work

All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Neutral Nirvana

There are times when all I want to paint is an abstract.  Yesterday I decided to use 3 colors and explore the neutrals that I could obtain.  I used Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Purple, and Yellow Ochre.  I know a strange combination....but look at the gorgeous neutrals!  Ahhh makes my heart go pit a pat!!!:) I am actually going to pursue this further because it has sparked an idea that is just frantic to get out!

Purple Pink Peonies

This is a re-do of sorts.   I have been looking at the work of Ray Roberts and others on Facebook and am learning more about the direction that I wish to go with my work....this is a result of that looking and analyzing.  I am extremely happy with the results......

My Treasures II

Once again I will need to photograph in the daylight because the colors aren't as intense as they are in true to life.  I really cut loose with this painting.  I focused once again on my 'treasures'....my stash of still life objects to paint.  I kind of enjoy this because I don't have to compose a story....I like things to be quite natural.  With this it is about the objects...their relationships to one another...color....interaction.....It is about letting my feelings come through the painting.  I am either going in the wrong direction or in the right direction....I think I will just need to weather this one through.

My Treasure

I have a treasure trove of props for my still life compositions.  I decided to just paint them as they are stacked next to one another on the top shelf....such fun!!!  This will be a series....more to come!!

Purple Peonies

Very happy that I went back into this painting and tried to do a better job....I have been looking at the work of Ray Roberts and learning from the way that he applies paint.  I have so much to learn.....also working on the shadow colors....

Eggplant and Hibiscus

I had fun painting this one today.  Eggplants are such a luscious vegetable with rich colors and reflections.  I am getting more used to my Rosemary brushes and now realize that they hold paint very well and the stroke is smooth.

Red Vase Purple Plum

This was a very fun little painting to paint.  It is gouache and on hot press watercolor paper.  I honestly felt as though I was treading into new territory!  It is 6x9 inches. Will be for sale in my Etsy shop soon.

Two new (old) paintings....

These are two paintings that I have been working on for sometime.  I feel that I am finally tying all of the ends together and heading down a path that I have wanted for a long time.  I have been soul searching over the past 2 or 3 weeks and now I feel that after a break from painting I am ready to dive in.  The top painting is 'Olives', 6"X 6", Oil on board.  The bottom painting is 'Sunflowers', 10"X 8", Oil on stretched canvas.  Both of these paintings will be in a state of limbo as they dry and when thoroughly dried placed in my Etsy shop.....be watching!

Broccoli.....Day 21

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord My submission for Day 21 in the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge is Broccoli!  This was a very fun painting to paint!  I find it easier to walk more fully in abstraction which is where I want to wander.  I have developed a nice system for my preliminary drawing and under painting which I will show you by way of video hopefully in my next painting.  This painting can be found here .

Two Green Apples

10"X10" Oil $145.00 This little green vase was a recent purchase from a flea market that we went to.  I just felt like color.  I added a few colors to my palette.  As you know I have been working with very limited palettes.  I added my favorite fuchsia to the mix of colors.  My focus in this painting was to create as much depth as possible with the flowers.  I premixed my black rather than using Ivory Black.  I use a mixture of Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, and Cad Yellow Med.  You get a nice black and great harmony in the painting.

Black Hollyhock

4"X 6"  $75.00 For Sale On Etsy    I am very busy with the Webinart class that I am taking from Leslie Saeta.  It is wonderful by the way!  There will be a new website coming soon $75.00 plus $10.00 shipping USD

No Tears

6X6 $100 Available on my Etsy site   I worked hard on this painting...I redid it about 3 times and now I am happy with it.  I have found that darks are not always as dark as they seem.  It is a real interplay of colors and value that make a painting sing.

PURPLE PASSION

I have searched my garden books for the name of this purple flower and can't find what it is. If any one knows please let me know. I think it is an annual. It sort of looks like a gloxinia doesn't it? 6X6 inches oil canvas panel

Eggplant and Glass Vase

It has been a couple of days since I painted and I felt very rusty but I pulled together a little painting. It is Memorial Weekend and it has been a quiet relaxing time. Wishing you all a happy Memorial Day!!
