Princess

This is a FineTec watercolor painting on black watercolor paper.  I am so obsessed with this paint because it lends itself to a painterly application.  You can find this painting at www.lindahuntfineart.com

Ink on Yupo paper....

Portrait #13

This i.s the second time that I have painted this incredibly beautiful woman.  The first attempt I felt that the drawing was too dark and dismal.  In this drawing I left some of the image to the imagination and focused the rich values in the face.  I may try drawing her again until I can achieve just what I am looking for.  However, I do like this drawing very much.  This woman is a member of the Beja People who are ancestors of the true Egyptians.  Think about this for a minute; they built and Empire that stood for 4,000 years.  I find that just amazing.

Portrait #12

This portrait went a little easier....I will do #11 over again....I learned a great deal from this one.

Portrait #11

This beautiful woman captivated my attention.....I found her on Pinterest....She is from the Beja people .....a true Egyptian.....I didn't capture her exactly....but I caught some of her beauty...

Portrait #10

Mary.....when called

I am taking a class by Kara Bullock titled 'Let's Face It'.  I am going to explore the portrait and figure in this class which is a direction I have wanted to explore for a very long time.  In this painting I used the Zorn palette which is a palette of only 3 colors and white.  The colors are Vermilion, Ivory Black, Yellow Ocher, Titanium White.

Self Portrait

A Self Portrait to start off the New Year 2018

Frida Kahlo Art

New work.......

#9 of 30

Moving right along with my 30 portrait studies.  I am learning and growing as I go along.  I use from my sources of inspiration ....Sarah Sedwick........John Singer Sargeant.....what better artists to help light the way.  I enjoy the challenge of age as well as ethnicity.  Because I must work from a photo it is important to not draw as though it were as paint by number.  It is difficult.   I try very hard to look at light and shadow shapes and lay the value in as I see it....working quickly and decisively.......  " Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results."

This was kind of tough........

Daily sketch #38

This is a sketch of an actual cast skull done by my friend Sharon Long of Laramie, Wyoming now from Reno Nevada.  The process for producing these skulls is her own creation and she worked with many from the Archeological programs.  I am honored to have one of her pieces.  This guy was in the Civil War and received an injury which lacerated his skull as witness by the groove above the left eye.  He lived for sometime afterwards.  This is the first time that I have attempted to draw him.  I am learning and growing with the process of crosshatching which I now love.  Paintings are coming!!!

Candy

I painted this portrait of my sister when she was just a little girl.  Pleased with the way it turned out... Portraiture is not something that I do often even though I truly enjoy it.  Our grandmother took this photo in the 'rose gardens' in Portland, Oregon many years ago.  We used to go there every summer when she visited us.  Those are fond memories....

My Satin Shoes

Satin shoes.....ahhh they really are luscious.  They were a birthday gift years ago and I only wear them on special occasions.  I am a fan of shoes.  I love to see how women pair them with an outfit.  I think that they have so much character.  You can really tell a lot about the wearer of shoes....the kind of personality that they have.  Shoes take on a life of their own!  This painting is roughly 8x8 inch square.  This is a Gouache painting on Bristol board.

Commission

This is the finished commissioned painting.  I refuse to touch it again.  I must not allow that to happen.  Sometimes I waiver....go back in....and wish I hadn't.  Sooooo, this one is going to be set aside and I will leave it.

Portrait I

With this portrait I tried to lay down a good Notan before I began to paint.  The photograph was so light that I had to change the mid tone values and contrast in a program on my computer.  It was difficult to find the shapes of value and color.  I am happy with the results , however.  In the future I will try to paint a little less.  I struggled to maintain control over the midtone values.  My art buddy Jo Mackenzie has established a pattern that she follows to get the tones perfect.  I am not a watercolorist and so I can use white paint to tint color.  I hope that with lots of practice I will be able to think with forethought a little bit more.

Self Portrait 2

This is another self portrait with a light skin tone.  I received my gouache today so I am going to get busy with that for the rest of the day.  This was fun though!

Self Portrait

A self portrait on a 5"x7" Gessobord panel done with oils.  I want to give a heartfelt shout out to Taryn Day for her guidance (on her blog) as to how to paint the figure.  She suggest turning the painting and photo upside down and it really did make it possible to get a better likeness.  Quite remarkable actually.  Thank you!!!!

Girl with The Green Hair

I fell in love with the features on this pretty face...this is a friend of Jo MacKenzie and she got the ok for me to paint this woman.  This is a gouache painting on mixed media paper.  The size of this painting is 5"x7".  Gouache is a very versatile medium...it can be washy or thick and opaque.  I have developed a real love for it.
