Pink Peony

This is Buggy.....she is the sweetest little tiny dog....she had such a rough start in life and has a fabulous human to love and a human who loves her unconditionally......what more could anyone want from life....canine or human?  This is an 8"x 10" drawing in graphite.  #bigguylittlesworldsanctury......check it out!!!!!

Portrait #13

This i.s the second time that I have painted this incredibly beautiful woman.  The first attempt I felt that the drawing was too dark and dismal.  In this drawing I left some of the image to the imagination and focused the rich values in the face.  I may try drawing her again until I can achieve just what I am looking for.  However, I do like this drawing very much.  This woman is a member of the Beja People who are ancestors of the true Egyptians.  Think about this for a minute; they built and Empire that stood for 4,000 years.  I find that just amazing.

Mary.....when called

I am taking a class by Kara Bullock titled 'Let's Face It'.  I am going to explore the portrait and figure in this class which is a direction I have wanted to explore for a very long time.  In this painting I used the Zorn palette which is a palette of only 3 colors and white.  The colors are Vermilion, Ivory Black, Yellow Ocher, Titanium White.

Savannah Townhouse

  This 7"x 5" oil painting is painted on a Raymar canvas panel.  The image was one that my husband shot for me in downtown Savannah last summer.  I loved the dappled sidewalk and the large oak trees that draped across the sidewalks.

Winter Peach

      10X8   150 For Sale On Etsy   These peaches from Chile are very sweet and succulent.  They brought a delicious warmth to a gray and rainy day.  In this painting I experimented with Zinc White and Titanium White.  I wanted a cool background to offset the warmth of the peaches and used the Zinc White and Prussian Blue.  In the foreground I used Titaium White with Cadmium Yellow to bring in warmth to the lighted areas. I am gaining control over my decision making and that gives me confidence.  This item is for sale ONLY to continental (lower 48) United States customers.

Cut Grapefruit

8X8 SOLD   I love painting grapefruit!  They are always so fresh and alive with color.  In this painting I used    Zinc White because it is a cool white.  I helped to cool the warms and create a cool palette. This item is for sale ONLY to continental (lower 48) United States customers.

Morning Light

8X8 $150 Buy Now on Etsy   Bananas are always a difficult and challenging fruit to pain; I believe it is the yellow that presents the problem.  I wanted to just lightly indicate the impression of the detail on the fabric.  I prefer to keep a clean unencumbered background in my paintings.

Sweet Things

6X6 $100 Available on my Etsy site   This was a fun little painting to do.  I backlit the still life so that the light would shine through the jar of honey and light the edges of the candy can.  I was working wth darker values and balancing the composition with light.  I am very happy with this little painting.

Giant Red Pepper

While I was shopping yesterday I found this huge, beautiful red pepper. When I brought it home to put into a salad I had to paint it first. The color is the most vibrant red and red orange. I tried something a little different with this painting. I worked very diligently to keep the colors pure and paint slow enough to be able to evaluate each color as I laid them down. I like the results. The painting has a clarity that I am not sure I have obtained to this point. I merged several tecniques that other bloggers have shared. I scumbled in the layout drawing with a neutral and then laid the colors into the value areas. 6X6 inches] canvas panel oil March2, 2010

Red Grapes

Grapes are so difficult for me to paint. I want to capture every little nuance of change and find that makes a busy painting. I responded to the light that filtered through the globes of color. The transition of light to shadow and the changes in value also intrigued me. February 25, 2010

Bosc Pears on Red Scarf

These Bosc pears are really beautiful but I found them challenging to paint. The value and color changes are very close and difficult to see. I have had this rich red scarf for a number of years and thought that it would make the perfect background. I just love the way the light sparkles on the satin stipes. The red reflection was an added bit of beauty. This oil painting is 6X6 inches on canvas panel. February 18th 2010

Savannah

This is a small 5 inch by 7 inch study of a home in Savannah. I think it was the lush vegetation and architectural elements that caught my attention. SOLD
