Sometimes you just have to follow the bliss!

In this painting I wanted a deeper space and set the still life back with an exspanse of foreground. I worked the color to intensify the foreground enough to hold the weight of the background. Loved working with these wide open flowers...such a pleasure. 8X8 oil canvas panel

Playing around with my new color blocks and my lemons. Great fun!

This has been my project for this week. I bought these old playskool blocks on Etsy a couple of weeks ago and today painted them in primary and secondary colors. I am using them to paint from. Many months ago I bought the DVD Painting Light: The Cape School Method by Camille Przewodek and she suggested making a set of colored blocks to use as studies.I like the way that she uses color as light. I paid $11.00 for the blocks and had the paint. I am excited to begin working from them. I looked for a long time before I found the blocks and price I wanted.

It felt good to be in the studio painting today. My lemons are holding up fine and I am beginning to love to paint yellow. Who would have guessed.

In this painting I once again used the lemons and paired them with some vintage glasses. Love this vintage glassware from the 1940's. To stretch the value range I used pepsi for my darkest value. I had a lot of fun with this painting and I am very happy with it. I really had to work a long time getting the composition down. I seem to spend more time setting up a still life than actually painting it. :)
