No Tears

6X6 $100 Available on my Etsy site   I worked hard on this painting...I redid it about 3 times and now I am happy with it.  I have found that darks are not always as dark as they seem.  It is a real interplay of colors and value that make a painting sing.

Oh Yummmmm!

8X10 $145 Available on my Etsy site   My husband and I often go to the Farmer's Market early on Saturday mornings and take in the sight, smells, and sounds.  I love the festive atmosphere.  All of the tables abundantly display their fresh produce in baskets colorful and delicious.  These foccacia caught my eye!  My husband shot these great photos for me...he is quite the budding photographer!!!

This Little Pig

6X6 $70 Available on my Etsy site   My heart aches over the tragedies the past few weeks have heaped on our country, families, and all tender spirits.  May we find comfort during these difficult days. I have had great difficulty painting and this little pig became my greatest nemesis.  But, I persevered knowing that I would bring it around.  I did...now I must try again!!!

Lino Cut

4X4       It has been a long time since I have done lino cuts and it will be a while before I get better at it!  But I enjoyed it so much.

Sweet Things

6X6 $100 Available on my Etsy site   This was a fun little painting to do.  I backlit the still life so that the light would shine through the jar of honey and light the edges of the candy can.  I was working wth darker values and balancing the composition with light.  I am very happy with this little painting.

Present Making

Fruit Salad

6X6 $100 Available on my Etsy site   This painting is a treasure hunt.  There is an orange, a pear, and a red bird...can you see them?  It has been coming for some time now that I wanted I really wanted to do was to  just let loose and play with color and shape with an indication of form.  This is the result.  It was glorious to enjoy every stroke of paint!

Three Green Pears

8X8 $115 Available on my Etsy site   This painting has undergone a metamorphosis in the last 24 hours because what I was trying for was just not successful.  The colors are quite muted but they are more vibrant than I was abel to capture.  The painting is really quite warm.  I am happy with this painting and want to thank Robin Rosenthal for her more than helpful advice.  I have a tendency to just splash around sometimes without in depth  thought as to where and how to place color and value.  That is a big problem.  With this painting I was very deliberate in my choices and I am very happy.
OK well,  I have been wanting to construct an art doll and this is what I have been doing for the past several days.  She is not nearly finished, but, I wanted you to see that I have been busy!

Salt Marsh

5X7 SOLD This was a thirty minute study of the salt marsh near Edisto South Carolina in the fall colors.  I kept it fresh and alive with color.

Near Edisto in Fall

6X8 $110 Available on my Etsy site Thanksgiving day it is our tradition to go to Edisto Beach with a picnic lunch before returning to a full Thanksgiving meal in the evening.  This year the day was glorious and all the the marsh lands were sporting their fall colors under the warmth of the sun.

Three Pears by Linda Hunt

6X6 Love the shape of this bowl with the curves of the pears.

Perfume Bottle II by Linda Hunt

24X18 I painted my perfume bottle large this time after thinking and evaluating just how I wanted to approach it.  It has been a while since I have painted large and so the experience while exhilarating was also a little intimidating.  I like the results and will continue to pursue larger works.

Candle Light

6X6 $85 Available on my Etsy site   It is difficult to get the values in a deep dark range for me...but, I had a lot of fun with the candlelight.  I enjoyed working with the glass and reflections.  I could have pushed the darks much darker I think but I was working with a limited palette and couldn't quite get the colors I was wanting.

Iris and Grapes still life by Linda Hunt

10X8 Finding the proper balance of color and value is one of the biggest challenges I face in painting at this point in time.  What you see doesn't necessarily have to be put down...in this painting I felt that a deeper color and value in the foreground helped to pop the color and light in the rest of the painting.

New Drawings still life by Linda Hunt

New ink drawings.  The marbles were a serious challenge, but, I thoroughly enjoyed every hatch.  Both of these items were unique finds from Etsy and my favorite thrift shop.

Cat eye Marbles still life by Linda Hunt

6X6 SOLD Enlarging the point of view on these cat eye marbles enabled for  greater exploration of color and shape.  It was the gray areas of color that made the spheres appear as glass.  My intention was to bridge the gap between pure abstraction and representation.

Cat eye Marbles still life by Linda Hunt

6X4 SOLD Sometimes it is best to challenge oneself.   Stepping beyond the edge and reaching for the unknown.

Drawing Perfume Bottle still life by Linda Hunt

My thoughts today on being Grateful: I am grateful that yesterday is over and that a brand new day has crested the tops of the trees.  Not all days are easy however valuable the lessons learned.  Sometimes I feel wind whipped as if a small storm has challenged the roots of my very existence; broken small limbs and toppled the lofty stance.  But, today I can take the memory of things past, combine them with things present, and begin anew.

Drawings of Perfume Bottle

I decided to work a little on drawing these past few days.  It takes a while to get the skills back.  I am going to pursue this further.  Can you guess which one was first, second, and last?

Lemon and Vanilla still life food art Linda Hunt

6X6 SOLD Frankly, I just liked the way that the light shined through the bottle of vanilla and the sliced lemons.  The glow of the bottle of vanilla was beautiful!

Grapes and Pomegranite still life food art by Linda Hunt

6X6 With this still life I used the North Light Filter that I recently bought.  It gave an interesting light and I loved the pinks.

Rosey still life by Linda Hunt

6X6 SOLD I found this incredible perfume bottle at the thrift store over the weekend and fell head over heels.  It just called out for strong color!

Pink Cup and Lemon still life food art by Linda Hunt

6X6  SOLD I liked the combination of colors in this little still life painting.  I was working with a predominantly 3 value plan.

Lemons and Bell Jar still life food art by Linda Hunt

6X6 This color combination really works for me.  I incorporated value range not only from light to dark, but also,  in color temperature.  I am happy with this little painting. Half the battle is setting up the still life...it takes me almost more time to set something up as it does to paint.  It is difficult to train myself to take it slow and do the preliminary drawing before I begin.  At some point maybe I won't need to include this step.

Last Chrysanthemum still life floral by Linda Hunt

This is one of the last chrysanthemum from my garden...I must say this was a very difficult flower to paint.  I scraped and repainted over 6 times.  But, like one of my favorite painters (Jo) I kept at it and looked for those neutrals to help define the form.  I am vindicated!

Pink Cup and Ball Jar still life kitchen art by Linda Hunt

6X6 Trying very hard to keep strokes clean and pure laying them down once and trying not to rework them.  There is something that I like about this painting...I need to analyze more fully.

Pomegranite and Plum still life fruit food art by Linda Hunt

6X6   In this painting I focused on simplicity.  Making each stroke count and intensifying the color was part of the strategy.  I am back to doing a preliminary drawing and finding the value patterns. Quite satisfied! $80.00 for sale on my Etsy site.

My Still life Stage

This is my new Still life Stage that I purchased recently.  I can not say enough praiseworthy about it.  It is well constructed and fairly lightweight.  It was designed by David and Carol Marine.  It can be purchased here.   It is being made and marketed by Connie Nobbe and expert craftsman Mr. Nobbe.
6X6 I was interested in capturing the beautiful luminous light that filtered through these red grapes.  I have been nursing a dog back to health and this is the first day in many that I have painted.  Needless to say things did not run smoothly!

Plums still life fruit by Linda Hunt

8X8"   Last Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market where I bought these blue-black plums.  I intended to eat them after painting but I think I waited too long.  Once again I used a preliminary drawing to establish my composition and value structure.  I think that my paintings are much more solid than in the past.  Glorious day today...couldn't be better...cool and sunny...although I worked with a light source in the studio I allowed some of sunlight to penetrate the room which accounted for a beautiful bluish tint to everything. To purchase go to Etsy.  $110.00 plus shipping

Roses in Vaeline Vases still life floral by Linda Hunt

8X8" Here is another painting that I reworked.  Sometimes I have a tendency to become too complicated and that muddies the image for me.  In this one I simplified and squinted and really assessed before painting each stroke.
Today I spent my time reworking several paintings that I was jot happy with.  I like them much better now....I may not be done!

Sunflowers in Blue Jar still life by Linda Hunt

7X5 I bought this blue Ball jar on Etsy...love the color.  Sunflowers are wonderful happy flowers and made my day a little more special.  I hope that it does the same for you!!

Lightbulb challenge still life by Linda Hunt

4X6"   SOLD    Last weeks challenge on DPW was to paint a light bulb and this was my entry.  I just let myself enjoy the colors and shapes.  I have to admit that painting a light bulb is much more difficult than it would seem logical.  I bought this gorgeous orange cloth yesterday and had to use it for a backdrop.  I  enjoy using intense color.

Southern Peach still life abstract by Linda Hunt

10X10" The surface that I am painting on is a very smooth linen panel, and it feels very different.  The paint has a mind of its own soI really had to work at keeping control.  Once again I did a preliminary drawing and focused on light, medium and dark value areas.  I felt successful in this area.
8X8" I have been creating a preliminary drawing for each painting before I begin to paint.  It allows me to breathe a little, to evaluate, and then to carefully map out a composition and a value struture before I begin with paint.

Peach Roses II floral still life Linda Hunt

10X10" I am working hard at painting roses.  There are many things to think about, but keeping a light touch and accurate drawing is very important.
4X6" This painting was painted for the DPW challenge this week. I was very excited because I bought one of the Carol Marine and David Marine still life stage setups here  and it is a wonderful tool.  Because the light is captured inside of the 'tent' it made painting so much easier.  I highly recommend this device!

Matisse Petunia floral by Linda Hunt

I pushed this painting a little with color and mark making.

'Red Trumpet Flower' floral by Linda Hunt

10X8"   I grew these trailing trumpet flowers last year.  They are a beautiful deep red that catches the light with an orange red glow.

'Waterlily'..... floral by Linda Hunt

SOLD 8X8" My husband has several beautiful water gardens which he cultivates...yes, complete with fish!  One of the waterlilies is a gorgeous white.  This beautiful white lily was nestled beneath the rich fleshy green leaves when I captured the image.

White Daisy floral by Linda Hunt

SOLD 6X6" This is a small painting of one of the daisies in my garden.  I cropped the image to focus in on the subtle turn of the petals and look into the interior of the flower.
