Finished this painting today....this lady was making her baskets and selling them at the South Carolina Artisans' Center....I loved the light in this image.
Reworked this painting and am greatly pleased with the result. When do you know when a painting is done. I used to have an instructor in school that said "when a painting breathes on its own...you know the painting is done." I think you can just feel it when it is complete........... The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. Helen Keller
This is a paper painting ..... Color aid papers, beads, specialty glitter paper, origami paper, glue....now eventually I want to translate this into oil and mixed media.....I began this process with several detailed drawings.
For me it's all about simplification.... Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Francis of Assisi
Moving right along with my 30 portrait studies. I am learning and growing as I go along. I use from my sources of inspiration ....Sarah Sedwick........John Singer Sargeant.....what better artists to help light the way. I enjoy the challenge of age as well as ethnicity. Because I must work from a photo it is important to not draw as though it were as paint by number. It is difficult. I try very hard to look at light and shadow shapes and lay the value in as I see it....working quickly and decisively....... " Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results."
My objective today was to work as quickly and objectively as possible and paint an image that felt, smelled, and tasted like a pomegranate. Rendering what I saw was really secondarily an goal. It was hard because I had to stay in the moment as much as possible. Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one. Hans Selye
Trying some new collage work....It is stimulating and I want to see where it can take me. This is paper and bling...of course a little bling Have great hopes and dare to go all out for them. Have great dreams and dare to live them. Have tremendous expectations and believe in them. Norman Vincent Peale
Moving right along....still had to do this one twice.....I must remember that a light touch is required and not to draw the image in first....no, no , no....it is important to make marks spontaneously as you see each value and contour line. I am looking at the drawing of Sargeant.....good place to start? “The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.” – Chinese Proverb
My goal is 30 portraits ...... I am learning as I go along. Simplify....large juicy shapes of value....light touch.... “The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.” – Chinese Proverb
