These cactus pears looked great in the grocery store and their color prompted the purchase. Now that I have them I have no idea what to do with them. If anyone knows how to eat them will you let me know?
Hi Linda, they grow quite wild here in South Africa. The pink ones are delicious. Hold your prickly pear down with a fork. Take a knife in the other hand and cut off both ends. Then make one cut from end to end through the length. Still with the knife, open the slice and pull away the peel in one piece. Slice and eat. They are so nice when chilled.
Nice work! Love that wonderful red and the way it looks against the cool background. I like the way you left one muted.
As for what to do with them: Here in Texas we make Prickly Pear Preserves. They taste very much like strawberries. Google and I'm sure you will get some good recipes!
