Hydrangea in Glass Vase


These are the prettiest blue hydragea blossoms. I am working on a larger still life which include this vase of flowers. The light on these flowers was very appealing and I wanted to capture the image on its own. In this painting I tried for greater harmony and worked to establish a strong contrast.

Yes, I agree with Ruth, hydrangeas are complicated. Your immediate brush strokes give it a Van Gogh feeling. Even though you have used soft cool colours your brush work has created lots of energy.

LITTLE ORANGE TEAPOT SOLD

Red Orange is another of my favorite colors. When I saw this great tea pot in one of the stores in town I wanted it right away. But, I thought and thought about it and when I went back to the store it was still there and I decided that it was mine! I am not a tea drinker but I have always loved the shapes and sizes and variety of design of teapots. In this painting I backlit the teapot with natural and studio lighting.
