Savannah Theater

This little cityscape of the old Savannah theater is representative of the streets that line downtown Savannah Georgia.  I was lucky to be able to capture the scene with one of the touring trolleys right in front of the theater.

Augusta

Once every couple of years my husband and I take a day trip to Augusta, Georgia.  I am really not sure why we began this trek, but it is something that we enjoy.  There is a restaurant that we eat at and along the streets is the typical outdoor eating spots with bright colored shade umbrellas.  There are a number of thrift shops that we visit which is one of our favorite things to do.  These bright orange umbrellas caught my eye!  This is so Southern!!!  The day was incredibly hot and the sun was very bright.  I think that this image captures the feeling of the day.

So Savannah!

This is a painting that depicts the downtown townhouse in Savannah that I have painted a number of times.  I never tire of painting it.  With this painting I began with my light values and them laid in my darker values and lastly added my medium values.  I liked the flow and will try this approach with my other paintings.

Savannah Townhouse

This 7"x 5" oil painting is painted on a Raymar canvas panel.  The image was one that my husband shot for me in downtown Savannah last summer.  I loved the dappled sidewalk and the large oak trees that draped across the sidewalks.

Savannah Townhouse

I love these townhouses in downtown Savannah.  This one was particularly beautiful with its winding staircase and sculpture.

Savannah Townhouse Street View

This is my entry for the 30 in 30 challenge.  It was a lovely townhouse with a garden right out front on the sidewalk.  It just took my breath away.  So beautiful and bright.

Good Dog!

This sweet little girl petting a friendly dog at the local Farmer's Market caught my eye.  I loved her stance and endearing gesture.  I am beginning to feel comfortable with landscape, cityscape and people in those scapes.   I took a great deal of abstract license with this painting.  I think that I am beginning to find my voice.  I will photograph tomorrow because the lighting was incandescent in my studio.  Not good.  It washed out most of the grays.  Ahhhhhhh.....photographed under natural lighting....what a change!

Spoletto Art Festival

Darn I missed yesterday's post!  Oh well, this will be day 11.  This image was taken from the time that we visited the Spoletto art festival in Charleston South Carolina this past summer.  I am beginning to really enjoy these landscapes and cityscapes with people in them!

Baby Blue Shed

This little painting is 3"x 4" on a canvas panel.  It was a small painting that I did some time ago that just never seemed to work.  Yesterday, I decided to spruce it up and submit for Day 8 of the 30 day challenge.

Savannah III

OK now I am much happier with this little 5"X 7" painting.  I worked hard to simplify and to included enough to keep interest.  I am pleased that I finally got a painting that I appreciate.  I slowed way down in the beginning and then increased speed as the painting began to take form.  I am reading a great book that talks about one finding ones own path.  I think that I am beginning on that path!  Excited!!!

Savannah...I

My challenge in the following 28 days will focus around Landscape or Cityscape.  This is an area where I haven't spent much time.  This is a tiny little thing....only 5"x7" on a canvas panel.  My husband and I spent many hours walking the streets of downtown Savannah last Spring and Summer photographing interesting buildings and townhouses.  I tried to keep this painting from becoming too ticky tacky and it was hard.  I think that I will become better acquainted with what to include and what to leave out in the future.  Tomorrow is another day and I am up for the challenge! I recently bought several new books for Christmas and was given a beautiful book on Thomas Hart Benton. I saw a documentary on his life and work and have so much respect for him.  I will tell you a little bit about him and include photographs of some of my favorite paintings.

Corner Ice-Cream Parlor

6"X 8" Oil on Canvas Panel       I remember when I was small that there was a soda shoppe in downtown Lusk Wyoming It was so much fun to go there and have a chocolate coke and play the juke box. Well, in downtown Beaufort there is a corner ice-cream parlor that brings back so many wonderful memories! They serve great hot dogs! It can be found here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/155758028/corner-ice-cream-parlor-by-linda-hunt?ref=shop_home_active

Post Race

This scene was taken in Savannah after a bike race. My husband shot the photo...I liked the pattern of the wheels and the overall cityscape. It was a real challenge though because the painting is 2' X 5'. I am so used to working smaller...much smaller...I finally broke the painting into bite size pieces and painted it that way. There may be a bit more tweaking by I like it.

Sketch Yellow Door....Savannah

6"X4" Oil Canvas Board                                                                             $115.00    I redid this painting on a smaller scale and worked more quickly...I find that sometimes I belabor the process and I do not get the energy I am looking for.  I like this little study a lot.

Yellow Door...Savannah

10"X8" Oil Stretched Canvas   $165.00   This was a tiny little hole in the wall of an apartment in one of the townhouses in Savannah.  The residents on these old city streets adorn the entryways with a profusion of flowers and plants.  It is a real joy to behold.

Summer in Charleston

14"X11" Oil Stretched Canvas $250.00 This lovely home was on a side street in Charleston, SC.  I was drawn to the interplay of sunlight on the house, foliage and flowers.  The day was warm, sunny and bright.
