Just staying loose and enjoying color!  I know there are things that could be worked on, but, I want to pare down my strokes and keep it really fresh. I will be teaching a 1 day workshop in Savannah, Georgia in 2014....please email if interested.....I will keep you informed of the exact date and location!   This will be a very exciting new venture for me.  Many of you have asked and now here it is!!!!

Two new (old) paintings....

These are two paintings that I have been working on for sometime.  I feel that I am finally tying all of the ends together and heading down a path that I have wanted for a long time.  I have been soul searching over the past 2 or 3 weeks and now I feel that after a break from painting I am ready to dive in.  The top painting is 'Olives', 6"X 6", Oil on board.  The bottom painting is 'Sunflowers', 10"X 8", Oil on stretched canvas.  Both of these paintings will be in a state of limbo as they dry and when thoroughly dried placed in my Etsy shop.....be watching!

Our beautiful, Sadie, sweet girl...

Cyclists in Savannah

This painting has been in progress for months.  Large and unwieldy....I did learn a lot though I have to say.  The size is 2'X4'....it is a Christmas present for my husband who is a cyclist himself.  The photo is one that my husband took of a bike race in Savannah last early summer.

Glass Ornament Abstraction

20"X20'     Can I get some feedback here on this piece....I am excited about pursuing this kind of referential abstraction.

Sweet Ellie.....commissioned painting

SOLD This little 6"X 8" painting is a commissioned piece done in oils.  This is a gift to owners that lost this sweet girl a while back.  I loved painting her image....such a sweet face. If you have a pet that you would like to commission a painting of please email me and we can discuss the option.

DRAWING 13 'Maiden'

11"X 14" Drawing Pencil Paper $75.00   I have been enjoying putting pencil to paper and just draw.  I need this practice and it is just such a wonderful place to be mentally.  I have always wanted to paint women, but I do not have a model.  The images I use are found on a site on Etsy and are legal to work from.  These photos are from around the early 1900's.  This drawing is found here .

DRAWING 12

This is a preliminary sketch done for a commissioned painting.  Ellie was a very sweet girl and rescued by a family that dearly loved her....she left this earth just far too soon.  What an honor to paint such a handsome animal.  It has been a while since I have painted a pet friend...I am excited to get back to it.  This girl was a blonde golden retriever with big soulful eyes. Drawing is something that I just love to do....why I do not draw every day is a real travesty.  I read somewhere that it is a smart thing to leave a sketch pad in every room in the house so that you can pick up a pen or pencil and draw when you have a few minutes.  I am continually buying sketch books...don't know why I guess I just love the creamy pages and the emptiness that awaits a few toned lines.

Drawing #11

This beautiful girl was photographed and her image appeared on postcards in the early 1900's.  There is a site on Etsy where I am able to find old photo cards (reproductions) of images of women.  I was drawn to this mysterious beauty with her mane of dark hair.  I love drawing images of women especially.  I will continue my 30 drawings even though they will be done in over 30 days.  I do love to draw.  This image was drawn with Derwent graphite pencils on a smooth Bristol board.

Glass Ornaments II

20"X20" Oil Stretched Canvas $800.00 I had so much fun painting the last painting of ornaments that I decided to select some of my favorite Christmas ornaments and place them in a box with a sheer white fabric.  Once again it was advantageous at some point to break the painting down to small bites and finish area by area.  Then toward the end I orchestrated the placement of final details.  There may be some very minor additions to be made but I will decided tomorrow.
16"X20" Oil Stretched Canvas $600.00   This is a much larger painting than I have been working on.  I chose the subject matter because of the colors and the tissue paper surrounding the ornaments.  I found that I needed to gray down the values in the paper to get it to read as white.  I think that I may have been able to go a bit darker.  I have never worked to any extent with cloth or folded paper and this presented many challenges.  I painted each section of the painting and finished a section before moving on the next section.  Was this the wisest way to work?  Perhaps and then again perhaps not....I need to think more about it.  Fun painting to do!

Drawing Day 10

6"X 6" Derwent Wash Pencils Paper This was the first time that I have used my new Derwent Wash Pencils.  You draw as regular and use a wet paint brush with water to spread and diffuse the graphite as a wash.  I have a light, medium and dark pencil.  It was a great deal of fun!  The marigolds are the last from my garden and I put them in my Vaseline glass vase for display.

Pink Rose Bouquet

5"X 7" Oil Canvas Panel  $90.00 I loved painting this little painting...I have found that sometimes I like to work from photos that I have taken from my still life setups.  Things stay put!

Day 9

15"X 11" Graphite Drawing Paper     I used a great deal of line in this drawing.  I think if I had to do it over again I would have used a very fine line on the bouquet of roses.  I had a great deal of fun with this drawing.  I tried to render with line, the pattern of the cloth under and behind the bouquet.  I deepened the line in the pattern with heavy dark line.  This was a great exercise.

Drawings day 5,6,7,8

I fell behind in listing drawings in my 30 drawings in 30 days challenge.  I am caught up now.  Some of these drawings are older and ones that I especially like.

Stella Sleeping Sketch

6"X 6" Graphite on paper     Day 5....30 drawings in 30 days....She kept moving all over the place!  I love to draw my dogs probably because I am so familiar with their forms and shapes.  Now on to a painting today!

Pink Rose

6"x 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00   This has be a real trial of patience and fortitude.  I am mentally exhausted.  It finally came around when I just said..." to heck with it"  ....then I relaxed and finally something happened.  What did I learn?  Well, I will really need to evaluate, but I think that going for big blocks of color fields helps.  Let it move from the brush...don't try to direct too much.

Rose Sketch

I began a 30 drawings in in 30 days.  This is a 6"X 6" drawing on Raffine paper.

Zinnia

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 With this painting I became aware of the tactile quality of the paint and used it to sculpt some of the forms.  The paint is quite thick in some place.  I think that it is close to palette knife painting.  These zinnia are from my garden this year. Where does one draw the line between what you see and what works?   Do any of you have an opinion?

Ummm Fresh Lemons

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 I have a difficult time painting yellow....I don't know exactly what it is but I find it really hard to figure out what the shadow color is.  I also feel that there doesn't need to be too very big of a jump in value from light to shadow.  This painting can be found here :

Red and Green

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00     There was an objective with this painting.  I am exploring shape and color in the context of a recognizable still life.  I often struggle with still life setups, with this one I had a very clear objective.  I don't really like to explore narrative in my work and that left me with "So what else".  I was a bit constrained but I think that this will work its way out as I continue to explore these perameters.  This painting is found here .

Allsorts

4"X 6" Oil Canvas Panel $90.00 I have made a small video showing the process of painting this painting from start to finish you can find it on my Facebook page.  http://www.facebook.com/lindahuntfineart Tricky little painting to do!  Getting the color to work was a real challenge.

Small Tomatoes

4"X 6" Oil Linen Covered Board $90.00 Darn....I meant to follow this painting from layout to finish and I forgot!  Hopefully I will remember tomorrow.  My friend Jo MacKenzie told me of a great site that allows you to paint the photographs that the members post.  This was from a very talented photographer on site.  Setting up a still life is still one of my biggest challenges.

Red Grapes

11"X 14" Oil Stretched Canvas $175.00   This is a painting that I have been working on for quite a little while.  I finally think that I have harmony in this painting.

White Peony Bouquet

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00   This little floral painting was painted alla prima in one session.  I will push to be more gestural in the next floral painting.  This painting can be found here .  I bought a book on Chinese Flower Painting and I am hoping that I will get a feel for the structure of the flowers.

Tea and Lemon

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 Feels good to be back painting!  My yard called to me for 2 days which felt like and eternity away from the brush!  This painting found here :

Collage.....30 in 30 challenge

These are some of the paintings that I created for the 30 in 30 challenge.

Gray Dog....Day 30

8"X 6" Oil Raymar Canvas Panel $110.00 This is my submission for Day 30 of the 30 in 30 day challenge.  For those of you who have been following along....Thank You!!!  Hope you will check back often as I plan on continuing frequent postings.  Thank you Leslie Saeta for a great opportunity!

Pink Peony Day 29

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $125.00 This is my submission to Day 29 of the 30 paintings in 30 challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta.  I thought that this peony was going to be a snap to paint but is turned out to be anything but easy.  There were so many value changes that it was important to keep the Notan firmly rooted in the process.  This painting can be found here .

Rose

$100.00 6"X 6" Oil Gessobord

Peony Bouquet.....Day 26

6"X6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00   SOLD This is my submission for Day 26.  I am trying to get caught up.  Finally had to break down and clean house!!!  This painting can be found here for sale....

Water Lily....Day 25

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $50.00 Day 25....this painting was not destined to be what I wanted...but, I still like it and am offering it at a discount.

Peach Peony....Day 24

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $125.00 I'm ready to chill out after this one.  It was really HARD!   So many petals going all different ways.  I am pleased with the results.  I have to laugh at myself....I thought of showing a step by step process in the painting of this peony....but....never looks like anything until the last few strokes!  I am happy with this painting however I got here.  This painting is found here :

Double Peony ....Day 23

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 I think that I love painting flowers most of all.  This image was a very satisfying image to paint.  I did paint this from a photograph.  I am still working with finding the most beautiful combination for Notan.  I think that sets the entire painting.  This painting can be found here.

Radishes....Day 22

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord This is my submission for Day 22 of the 30 paintings in 30 days.  I appreciate having had the great opportunity to paint on a daily basis...I have learned so much...Thank you Leslie Saeta.  I have developed a process of finding my Notan in the beginning which is the bones of each painting.  For this I am so happy and indeed very grateful.

Broccoli.....Day 21

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord My submission for Day 21 in the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge is Broccoli!  This was a very fun painting to paint!  I find it easier to walk more fully in abstraction which is where I want to wander.  I have developed a nice system for my preliminary drawing and under painting which I will show you by way of video hopefully in my next painting.  This painting can be found here .

Apple...Day20

6"X 6" Oil Stretched Canvas I am catching up now...I chose this relatively simple still life today.  I enjoyed painting it so much.  There has been much attention to color as value that I have been studying and it is paying off.  I am very pleased with this apple.  This painting is my submission to Day 20 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  This painting is found here .

Christmas Bird

.   6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord   This is really late being listed and for that matter painted!  I had many things going on and I am just now trying to finish a painting for Day 19.  The little bird is a Christmas ornament and so is the silver glass ball. The bird is gold and sparkly.  I tried to capture some of the sparkle and am not sure if it translated.  The wings are gossamer with a very fine light color netting.  It was fun to paint.  I have tried unsuccessfully many times.  This time I understood value much better as well as color.  It is fun to try new things.  The 30 in 30 challenge has for some reason left me more able to experiment.  This painting can be found here .

Green grapes on Red Plate

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 What is the lesson about color?  You may have a set up with specific colors but they are merely color notes that can be changed as the painting progresses.  I work process which is the way that I painted when I was working purely abstractly.  In that progression colors are added and removed until the painting looks and feels right.  In this painting I was attracted to the color of the grapes and that is how I built the composition.  The translucent of the grapes just drew me right in and gave me a reason to paint.  It is a little like love at first sight. This is my submission to Day 18 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  This painting can be found here .

Jar of Olives.....Day 17

6"X6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00       I am sweating bullets...I wipe this baby out about 4 times and finally brought it to a conclusion!  I was actually going for almost full abstraction.  Pushing the limits was my intention and still maintaining some semblance of reality.  I was looking at the work of Kathryn Kehoe yesterday and that is something that I admire about her work; especially her still life paintings.  If you haven't had an opportunity to look at her work I encourage you to do so. As I have said many times about my work...I walk with one foot in abstraction and the other in realism.  It is pretty much the way that I approach life.  I like to go to the smallest denominator and then see how close to representation I can come.  This painting can be found here .

Ketchup... Day 16

T   8"X 6" Oil Raymar Canvas Panel NFS   This is my submission to Day 16 of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.  This is a commission.

All Smiles...Day 15

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 This is my submission for Day 15 of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.  Isn't she the cutest little dog....all full of smiles....this is for Marie....Thank you so much for letting me paint Mitzy!  What a little cutie...so much fun...she is in her dark red designer sweater.

Pear in a Cup ...Day 14

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 This pretty little cream and sugar clear glass set was a lucky find at a recent trip to the thrift shop.  When I finished with this painting I was amazed at how graphic it turned out.  It has an almost Matisse like feeling to it.  This is my Day 14 submission to the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta.  This painting can be found here .
