Citrus

Reworked this painting and am greatly pleased with the result. When do you know when a painting is done.  I used to have an instructor in school that said "when a painting breathes on its own...you know the painting is done."  I think you can just feel it when it is complete........... The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. Helen Keller

New work and re-do's on some older works

New work

For me it's all about simplification.... Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Francis of Assisi

Pink Cabbage and Posies

This is a work in progress....I am evaluating whether I will work anymore on it........Well, I needed to gray the left side a bit and I am now pleased with the painting.  There was just too much blue to suit me.

Winter Rose

Dining Room I

This is a little 9"x 12" oil painting that I have been working on for months and have finally brought it to a conclusion.  Anyway, I think it is done.  I need to evaluate over time.

Floral Red Vase

I have been working on this 20"x 20" floral for the past few days and feel comfortable with this conclusion.  The direction that I have been exploring for sometime is looser than past paintings.  Could I push it further?  Perhaps, but I just want to let this ferment and then move forward.  The red vase is one that I recently purchased from a thrift store.  It was love at first sight.  The pattern is almost like Majolica ware; many bright and interesting colors.  I worked on the composition in this painting because I feel that is an area of vulnerability for me.  The last thing I wanted was a rendering of the objects.  Color was my main interest along with shape. Looking and observing impressionist painters and the way that they not only laid down paint, but also, mixed colors next to one another gave me lots to aspire to.  What was lacking a bit because this is new ground that I am breaking was the direct emotional response to the...

Interior II

I worked more on the interior that I painted over a month ago and am beginning to like it very much.  I may have a ways to go...but this is a good start.

Red Bird II

I felt that working more on this painting seemed like a good idea.  I used the 3 color palette with the addition of Quinacridone Magenta which allows me to achieve the red violets and blue violets that I like so much.

A Place Is Set

I have been working on this abstract for many months and it was just not going anywhere.  But, today I felt inspired to work on it.  I feel that the direction is good and one that I have been seeking.  Once again I will say that I am not sure of the primary colors that I am using...although I am trying to persevere.  Leave comment please and tell me what your reaction is...it would appreciate it so much.
