Tulips For You

Awww the tulips were in the grocery store ad I couldn't resist.  I bought the creamiest ones I could find........12"x 12"......canvas.....oil..... www.lindahuntfineart.com ...........I am reminded over and over again just how important the initial layout of a painting is.  Accurate, yet loose drawing in the beginning and then establishing your pattern of values.  I have been using Vermilion and Alizarin Crimson to to the drawing and light washes of values.  I like this because the color is easily absorbed into the painting.  I purposefully kept the color range narrow.  It is funny where one finds inspiration for a color scheme.  I took it from the cover of the latest Living Magazine.  It worked beautifully. Let the beauty of what you love be what you do. Rumi

Red Tulips

I am taking a wonderful class on LIGHT from Dennis Perrin and I must tell you it is phenomenal.  This is my first painting using his method.  It was harder than it should have been because I chose tulips which changed position over night.  I had a wonderful drawing all laid out and the next morning....wallla....it was completely different...so very frustrating!!!!!!!  But hey, I have learned a ton!!!

Tulip Time

I have painted these tulips before but, I feel that this is my best attempt.  I am learning so much.  I am a little disappointed that the photo isn't as dense as the painting.  It could be the light which is overcast and quite bright.

Tulip

I am diving into photos that I have taken in years past.  Since the Spring flowers are blooming and the warmer weather is in the air I painted a glass full of pink tulips.  This painting is 10"x 10" on canvas panel.   It is an oil painting and needs to dry before it can be listed for sale.  This is my tribute to a beautiful sunny day!!!!

Tulips

While I was looking through my reference photos this morning these pretty red tulips caught my eye.  What I learned from my abstract work is still with me.  I have to admit that I love painting images as well.  I feel that working abstractly forces you to work quickly and with energy.  I began to tighten up and wiped off a couple of times.  Then I used my red viewfinder to correct values and my mirror to really size up the composition.  Then drawing a deep breath I dove in.......

Tulips SOLD

I bought these tulips yesterday while shopping. I was surprised that they held up as well as they have. In these paintings I was trying to paint a little looser and not so deliberately. I wanted to flow more with the paint and with the values that I saw. Whether I achieved that I am not sure but it felt different. SOLD
