Red Peony

Michael's had a really fabulous sale on all Spring and Summer flowers and I bought these red peonies.  LOVE them and they were so much fun to paint.  I am working very hard on the compositions in my paintings.  To begin with I section off the canvas into 3rds length and width.  I focus on finding where I want to find the focal point and try to place it in the sweet spot. this is one of the intersections of the length and width lines.  Do you follow me?  It resembles a tic tak toe board.  The I find my darkest darks and two more values including white.  I then lay in the darkest values and then the middle values. I end by putting in my lightest lights.  At this point there is quite a bit of refining that takes place.  I work hard to use a very limited palette and find a nice harmony between all of the colors.  It is a felt thing at this point to decide when the painting is done. The future belongs to those who believe in the b...

Reworked paintings

Firecracker!

I had fun with this painting today....still trying out the water soluble oil paints...not sure how I feel about them....clean up is easy though!

Peonies Galore

This was very difficult to do.............I followed the Perrin Method and was able to lay down my value structure.

Peony

I am taking a course in exploring the peony.  This is my first painting in this class.

Brass Vase

I am experimenting with something and I want to know your reaction to...if you care to please leave a comment.....I want it to move more in the direction of the abstract....great big hint.... purchase here

Exuberance

Fun, fun painting to do.  I used a simple palette of Vermillion, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Cad Yellow Lt, and Titanium White.  Well, I did use a touch of Dioxazine Purple.

Purple Peonies

Very happy that I went back into this painting and tried to do a better job....I have been looking at the work of Ray Roberts and learning from the way that he applies paint.  I have so much to learn.....also working on the shadow colors....

Pretty in Pink

I am on a Peony roll here.....just enjoying the process of painting and color.  Can be purchased here .

Peony Revisited

These were peonies that were rejected in the choosing of the ommission paintings.  I painted 4 extra and so I had plenty for the customer to choose from.  I decided to go back into the unfinished paintings and beef them up a bit.  THEY SOLD  I am very happy with the way that they turned out.  What do you think?  I think I need to let things rest for a while before deciding they are done.  By the end of the commission marathon I was tired and so they were not as good as the earlier ones.  A week away and fresh eyes really helped.

White Fringe Peony

This White Fringe Peony is painted on a 6:x 8" Pintura panel. There is that fine line between staying loose and trying so hard that you lose the life in the flower. I had to work extremely hard. The photo was a bit flat which was something that I didn't initially see.

White Peony Bouquet

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00   This little floral painting was painted alla prima in one session.  I will push to be more gestural in the next floral painting.  This painting can be found here .  I bought a book on Chinese Flower Painting and I am hoping that I will get a feel for the structure of the flowers.

Pink Peony Day 29

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $125.00 This is my submission to Day 29 of the 30 paintings in 30 challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta.  I thought that this peony was going to be a snap to paint but is turned out to be anything but easy.  There were so many value changes that it was important to keep the Notan firmly rooted in the process.  This painting can be found here .

Peony Bouquet.....Day 26

6"X6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00   SOLD This is my submission for Day 26.  I am trying to get caught up.  Finally had to break down and clean house!!!  This painting can be found here for sale....

Peach Peony....Day 24

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $125.00 I'm ready to chill out after this one.  It was really HARD!   So many petals going all different ways.  I am pleased with the results.  I have to laugh at myself....I thought of showing a step by step process in the painting of this peony....but....never looks like anything until the last few strokes!  I am happy with this painting however I got here.  This painting is found here :

Double Peony ....Day 23

6"X 6" Oil Ampersand Gessobord $100.00 I think that I love painting flowers most of all.  This image was a very satisfying image to paint.  I did paint this from a photograph.  I am still working with finding the most beautiful combination for Notan.  I think that sets the entire painting.  This painting can be found here.
