Lemons in Goblet

It took some work to get the right yellow that worked with the painting. I found that by adding a cool Cadmium Lemon to my Cadmium Light that I could achieve the correct color. This goblet is a slighly orange tinted thin glass. I love lemons but find yellow to be a difficult color. Does andyone else have that situation? I used Thalo blue and Burnt umber to bring the value down. Does anyone have any tips on how to get deeper values with yellow?

Lovely, doesn't look hard for you to use yellow at all. Yellows are funny. It seems when I use them I keep going squirting out different yellows in search of one I can't find.

Wow... you are like Thiebaud incarnate! This is YUMMY. Thanks for the tip on yellow. Yes, I find yellow to be very challenging, too, in the shadow areas. It often goes too green or too orange. Sometimes Dioxazine Purple gives a fair result.

Delicious yellows! Love that hint of peach too. Just beautiful!
Love your restrained use of color and value . . . it's so subtle yet makes such a strong statement. I do have problems with yellows especially when painting lemons---sometimes the shadow sides play tricks and shift from cool to warm. I tend to use cad yellow deep and gray it down with sap green for the deeps, but there's so much I need to try out.

Love your still lifes Linda and this yellow gem is lush!

Unsure with oils, but with pastels I add lavender + purple in the adjoining shadows to pop the yellow.

Love your work, I found you through Polly Jones. I've been trying to paint yellow daffodils for the past 2 days and I've done nothing but wipe them out! *grumble* who knew yellows were so difficult!
