Watermelon and Bottles

I'm not sure what to say about this painting...it gave me fits. I finally just hinted at the bottles and in some ways I like them only faintly gestured in.

Well Linda, I think this painting is absolutely gorgeous! Love the composition, brushwork, color, and variety of "finish." Sometimes painting is such an emotional roller coaster, isn't it.

I like it the way it is done. Since the watermelon is the focal point, it makes sense to have the bottles as a bit subdued. Really nice- They bring your eye there and keep it in the painting. See, that was a good thing:) Great brushwork on that plate.

I think this watermelon is great! Love the colors of the two sides. And the brushwork on the plate is scrumptious!

I can relate to not being satisfied with your painting. I have been feeling that way about everything I've done lately, but I hate to talk about it all the time and be such a whiner. The problem is that I'm not proud of what I post, and I'm kinda embarrassed that people may think that I think it's good! It's a dilemma.

Linda,
I think you really are being too hard on yourself. It is great to want to improve, because EVERYONE has room to improve, but that doesn't mean that you aren't doing truly wonderful art. I have admired your brushwork and color for a long time. Never give up striving to improve but be proud of your accomplishments.

I agree with Doug! I would also say that we all have seasons of creativity and seasons of creative change which I always interpret as growth. As you continue to grow with your work, you will again be satisfied with your art.
