Apple on Glass Plate SOLD

This just goes to show you what happens when the color note of the background doesn't turn out the way you want. I like the apple well enough to not wipe it out though. I've been working with a very limited palette and find that sometimes it is a real challenge. The palette is Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Lemon, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson and White. The one thing that I dislike about my paintings to date is that they are all so pastel. I thought that by limiting my palette amd concentrating on developing new colors from a few might help me over the hump. My problem is how to deepen the colors.

Linda, your pastelness is what has made your paintings unique to me! But, I know how it is anoying when you want to change something and cannot. I too have a problem with using too much white and constantly remind myself to mix colors without it, adding just a little to change the value after I get the hue correct. White is very cool so I try to mix using cream or yellow/orange hues instead of white. Oh! maybe it would help you to put a few more of those hues on your palette. Good luck!

I love this little still life and happen to really like the pastel quality of it. Love the concentric lines radiating around the subject; just beautiful!
