This painting is larger than I have been working on measuring in at 14"X11".  It is oil on stretched canvas.  I painted this painting from life.

Grapes and Cherries

I love painting grapes and cherries....I have learned so much from the DVD in many different aspects of painting.  I think that books are fine, but to actually watch someone paint is a entirely different experience.  Valuable!!!

Key Lime Cupcake

Oh, how I wish I could eat this cake....it has been sitting under hot lights for an extended period of time so that would not be a good idea.  Looks good though!!  This is an 6"x6" oil painting on Gessobord.  It will be for sale in my Etsy shop when dry.  Still working with those neutrals which help to pop the color.

Paintings Revisited

These are all reworks...I have been experimenting with the use of neutrals.  This is one of the things that I have learned from the Putnam DVD.  I notice that the colors pop more and help to create space in the painting.  I like the use of neutrals and I like modulating the color fields with a variety of colors that Putnam refers to as bending the color.  It has taken my painting from looking like coloring book colors to a more sophisticated use of color.  It is thrilling to learn so much.  It has come at a perfect time when I was ready to accept these things.  For sometime now I have been disappointed with my painting for the reasons stated and these solutions are beginning to open doors in my mind.

Winter in South Carolina

I have a long long way to go but a journey can only begin with one step in front of the other....so I begin.  This is a plein air painting looking out my patio doors from my studio onto the backyard.  I am finding my way.  I am pounding away on this painting because I want to learn.  I have simplified shapes of value and worked on trying to get a separation between things.  That seems to be very difficult to me.  But I will keep on trying until I learn.

Orange Organic Beets

UPDATED
Love these orange beets even though I am not sure what to do with them after I finish painting them. The color just caught my eye many times in the grocery store. I will have to look on the internet to figure out how to prepare them.
I have learned a great deal from the DVD that Lori Putnam produced. I realized that I could actually work a little bit more on this painting without losing the energy and aspect of those things that drew me to the still life in the first place. I am excited because for the first time I understand what I lacked and it makes perfect sense. I have learned to evaluate the colors I choose and WHY. ... That alone is a very huge leap for me. Excitement is rushing through my veins as never before. This fits me....I paint fast, or wanted to paint rapidly, but, never could get the whole thing orchestrated. Eureka, I am beginning to understand..... The door is opened for real learning now. This is a 12"x12" oil painting on a canvas panel.

Augusta

Once every couple of years my husband and I take a day trip to Augusta, Georgia.  I am really not sure why we began this trek, but it is something that we enjoy.  There is a restaurant that we eat at and along the streets is the typical outdoor eating spots with bright colored shade umbrellas.  There are a number of thrift shops that we visit which is one of our favorite things to do.  These bright orange umbrellas caught my eye!  This is so Southern!!!  The day was incredibly hot and the sun was very bright.  I think that this image captures the feeling of the day.
