Apple Challenge

This weeks challenge was to paint an apple trying to capture the changing values which create form.

Girl Thing

This is a close up of the painting that I did yesterday. I liked the graphic nature of this little 6X6 inch painting.

Contents

I felt like painting smaller today...this little painting is 5X7 inches on a canvas panel. I am using my white very judiciously and concentrating on mixing colors and creating more color harmony. This was a good exercize in composition as well.

Blue Hydrangea

This is my 90 minute challenge. I wanted to keep this painting as fresh as I could by laying each stroke down carefully and trying to not go over an area more than necessary. I was very happy with the results. My other goal was to work with pure color and use very little white. 16X20 canvas panel oil

Crumpled Paper Challenge

This week's challenge at DPW was to paint a piece of crumpled paper...Oh my...what a challenge indeed. I broke the paper into major planes and using a value range of dark, medium, and light I then included planes in each of the major planes. Capturing the glow of the light shining through the paper was quite difficult. This is an excellent challenge and I thouroughly enjoyed it.

Quiet Moment

This is the second in a series of paintings taken from the photographs that I shot while in Cincinatti at the atrium. 20X20 inches OIl Stretched Canvas

Whisper Spring

Ohhhh it is truly Sping here in the South. I dug and raked yesterday and today I plant bulbs. While shopping I saw these sunflowers and after several days of wishing I had bought them...they were there! I used a red underpainting in this painting and love the small area that peek through. 8X10" Oil Stretched Canvas

Passion Flower

Last year while visiting Cincinatti we visited the atrium where I took many photographs. I will be starting a series from these images. This is the first one. It was loads of fun and I felt comfortable with the abstraction.

Ruby Red

This is a painting that I completely reworked. I was never happy with how it turned out, but I am pleased with it now. I added looser brushwork, higher contrast, and more color.

Moo

I bought these funny cow salt and pepper shakers the other day on a whim. They make me smile!

Katrina

This was a painting that I started in class yesterday and then pretty much repainted today. This is a 4X6 inch canvas panel.

Chocolates

This was the last painting that I did in class. I learned some very interesting new techniques and concepts in this class.
