Christmas is over and the New Year is rapidly approaching. While visiting in Oregon I walked through a terrific flower shop with an outdoor floral market. There were buckets of beautiful fresh flowers. The red gerbera daisies caught my eye as well as the large yellow sunflowers. It wasn't difficult deciding what I would paint after a week long absence from my easel.

In searching for a subject I turned to the 3 bags of apples that I had stored in my refrigerator. I knew that I wanted to paint an image with many multiples. The silver tray has been in my husband's family for many years and provided a good surface for the apples. I liked the reflection. The umbrella I have had for several years. I at one point envisioned suspeding them opened from my ceiling. I decided that wasn't a very logical solution in my stufio which is small.

Roses! I have become obsessed with roses, any color of rose. The orange in this rose was rich and vibrant. It is a long stem rose, but, the petals are large and billowy. This was a challenge to paint because of the intricate value range and structure. I can't believe it is only a few days before Christmas! I have a ton of things to do so I hope that I'll be able to paint and post.
This oil painting is 6 inches by 8 inches on Raymar canvas panel. If you are interested in purchasing any of my work please visit my Etsy shop. There is a link below.

I am starting a larger painting using apples. These apples looked so pretty on the silver platter that I painted a small one. The weather has been dark and rainy and the natural light in my studio has not been good. The studio has been quite cool so my hope is that the apples will survive long enough to finish the still life. I wish the rain were snow but there isn't much chance of that happening. I miss the snow!

Appreciation, "Thank you", Grace, Perfect Happiness, Admiration, Gentleness, "Please Believe Me". The various meanings of pink roses.
This oil painting is 6X8 inches on Raymar canvas panel.
Pink roses are my favorite rose color. Long stem roses are descendants of English Tea Roses dating back to the 1800's, having been brought from China. They are valued because of their sturdy single stem and their fragrant beauty.

We had a frightful storm last night and I was all cozy in my studio with this painting. Sometimes things just seem to flow. It helps when you take a break for a couple of days and then feel a fresh spark for painting. I love jig saw puzzles and spent my time between putting a few pieces together and then painting. It was great!
Yellow is such a difficult color for me to work with. . .I think it is because of the difficulty in defining values. I set these bananas against an aqua glass vase. I am not so sure I captured it so that it looked like glass. The vase is a flat and not round object and that made it even more difficult. Sometimes when I see it on the screen I can see it better. Any suggestions on what I could do to make it appear more transparent? I welcome all comments!
